Greta Thunberg Arrested in London Under Terrorism Act at Pro-Palestine Protest
Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was detained in London. She was showing her support for a demonstration by the 'Prisoners for Palestine' platform, which voices the demands of eight inmates who have been held captive for approximately a year on the grounds of being activists for Palestine Action and are currently on a hunger strike. The sign Thunberg held read 'I am against genocide.'
The Prisoners for Palestine platform staged a demonstration in front of the London office of Aspen Insurance, which collaborates with the Israeli defense company, Elbit Systems.
Activists staged a sit-in demonstration in support of Palestine Action, following their action of spraying red paint on the entrance of the building where the office is located. Greta Thunberg was detained under the Terrorism Act.
What had happened?
Following their actions against companies doing business with Israel, eight detained activists from the Palestine Action group, which was banned in July, had initiated a hunger strike. They demanded an improvement in prison conditions and the lifting of the ban on Palestine Action. However, government officials had responded negatively to these demands.
