Giant Multi-Billion Dollar Gold Vein Stretching 5.8 Kilometers Found in Finland
In Northern Karelia, a region of Finland that's a mere 10 kilometers from the Russian border, a massive gold reserve has been discovered, far surpassing initial estimates. The winter drilling revealed a colossal mineralization system stretching for kilometers, prompting experts to declare, 'We've never seen such high quality in a single mine before.'
The discovery that sent shockwaves through the mining world was announced by Yle, Finland's national broadcaster, and took place within the Ukkolanvaara rock mass in the North Karelia region.
The renowned mining company operating in the region, Endomines Finland Plc, has completed the results of its 2025-2026 winter drilling program on the 'Southern Gold Line'. The outcomes have proven the existence of a global-scale gold mining system in the region that is significantly larger, continuous, and worth billions of dollars than initially anticipated.
Endomines CEO, Kari Vyhtinen, made some striking revelations about exploration, highlighting the extraordinary potential of the "Ukko" deposit in Ukkolanvaara. Vyhtinen expressed the following:
'Our exploration team continues to yield robust results. We've made yet another significant discovery in Ukkolanvaara. The findings confirm the continuity of gold mineralization and considerably expand the size of the deposit. Witnessing three high-grade (quality) gold zones together in a single borehole is a situation we've never encountered before.'
The drilling program that kicked off in the fall of 2025 and ramped up in the winter of 2026 revealed that the Ukko deposit geologically spans a colossal area.
In the conducted studies, gold mineralization was detected a full 5.8 kilometers south of the currently known deposits, and four additional gold-bearing areas were identified along this line.
Specifically, in the drill hole numbered UKKO056, scattered visible gold grains were detected, located 235 meters northwest of previous successful drillings. Not stopping there, experts, by cutting through a thick vein of gold in the UKKO053 drill hole, located 1.06 kilometers south of the main center, laid bare the serious potential size of the deposit.
Upon examining the technical geological structure of Ukkolanvaara, it has been reported that the areas with the highest concentration of gold are located within the Banded Iron Formation (BIF).
In the region, ultra-precise operations have revealed a striking statistic: visible gold particles were detected in 34 out of the 52 drilling holes opened in 2026.
The company, as part of its 2026 exploration campaign, drilled a total of 52 boreholes spanning 11,517 meters. Drill core samples from these operations, conducted in accordance with advanced technology and international JORC code standards, were split and initially sent to CRS laboratories in Finland, and subsequently for final analysis to the world-renowned MS Analytical laboratory in Langley, Canada. Special re-analysis methods were employed for high-quality gold exceeding 10 g/t (grams per ton).
The detailed analysis results for 47 out of the 52 wells that have been drilled are still eagerly awaited.
Endomines is set to utilize the groundbreaking data obtained from the 2026 winter campaign in their 'Initial Mineral Resource Estimate' report, which is slated for publication in the latter half of 2026.
This massive gold belt, situated right next to the Russian border in a region of strategic importance in terms of population and economic balances, will remain a primary target for the Endomines company. CEO Vyhtinen, hinting at the arrival of new data in the coming months, expressed his eager anticipation for the next set of results, which are expected to be released in the summer of 2026. 'I am looking forward to the next set of results we plan to publish in the summer of 2026,' he said. International markets are on tenterhooks, waiting for the announcement of the clear tonnage and billion-dollar reserve size from the region.
