The historic summit in Ankara has come to a close. The leaders were presented with specially manufactured handguns as gifts.
World leaders flocked to Ankara for the 36th NATO Heads of State and Government Summit. As the historic summit drew to a close, the leaders began their journeys back to their respective countries, with special gifts prepared for each of them.
According to a post by Lucy Fisher, a correspondent for the Financial Times, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan presented each leader attending the NATO Summit in Ankara with a specially produced revolver and bullets.
Each firearm was uniquely engraved with the name of the leader. Moreover, the gift box included the necessary export documents for taking the firearms abroad.
The Prime Minister of the UK was unable to transport the weapon. Meanwhile, many countries plan to display it after rendering it harmless.
The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, was unable to take a gifted revolver back to his home country. British authorities stated that the firearm was left in Turkey due to legal restrictions prohibiting its importation into the UK. It was also mentioned that the gun would be shipped to the UK once it had been deactivated.
Canadian officials, on the other hand, emphasized that the firearm would be rendered inoperable. They also announced that a decision would be made regarding its display in an appropriate institution or museum.
The high-end revolver, specially manufactured for the NATO Summit, is expected to be taken into state ownership or displayed in a museum by the leaders.
In addition to this, signed books and letters were also among the gifts presented to the leaders.
