Ankara-Istanbul High-Speed Train Travel Time to Drop Below 4 Hours in 2027
The colossal project aimed at reducing travel time between Ankara and Istanbul is nearing completion. The Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced that the travel duration between Ankara and Istanbul will be reduced to less than four hours. On the other hand, Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that once the Doğançay Ripajı2 Project is completed, the 23-minute travel time will be cut down to just four minutes.
Work is ongoing on the Halkalı-Kapıkule and Ankara-İzmir High-Speed Train (YHT) projects.
Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, spoke at the inauguration ceremony of the Pamukova High-Speed Train Station and Alifuatpaşa Interchange. Minister Uraloğlu shared that since the introduction of high-speed trains with the Ankara-Eskişehir line in 2009, 114 million citizens have travelled using this service.
Minister Uraloğlu stated, 'Our high-speed train lines directly serve 11 cities, and through regional connections, they reach over 20 cities. We are continuing our construction efforts on many of our lines such as Halkalı-Kapıkule, Ankara-İzmir, Bandırma-Bursa-Yenişehir-Osmaneli, and Mersin-Adana-Osmaniye-Gaziantep.'
The travel time between Ankara and Istanbul will be reduced to less than 4 hours. The date for this change has been confirmed.
Minister Uraloğlu, who also touched upon the Doğançay Ripajı2 project, noted that with the completion of this phase, a journey that currently takes 23 minutes will be reduced to just 4 minutes.
Highlighting that the travel time between Ankara and Istanbul will be brought down to under 4 hours, Minister Uraloğlu stated, 'Once we finish these sections, we will have achieved a continuous speed of 250 kilometers. Thus, with a reduction of 30 minutes, we will have brought the travel time between Ankara and Istanbul down to under 4 hours.'
Uraloğlu recorded that the project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027.
