Michelle Yeoh Explains Why She Gave Emma Stone's Oscar to Jennifer Lawrence

Oscar viewers were left puzzled on Sunday as to why Emma Stone didn't receive her award directly from Michelle Yeoh, leading to speculations of racial bias.
At the 2024 Oscars held on Sunday, five past winners of the Best Actress Oscar took a minute to introduce each of this year's nominees, and last year's winner Michelle Yeoh was prepared to hand the award to the winner.
When Stone's name was called, Yeoh waited for a second before handing the award to Jennifer Lawrence, allowing Lawrence to present the award to Stone.
Yeoh wrote on Instagram on Monday:
'I wanted to share that wonderful moment when I handed you the Oscar with your best friend Jennifer!!! Sorry for the confusion but I wanted to share that wonderful moment when I handed you the Oscar with your best friend Jennifer!!!'
Lawrence won the Best Actress award in 2013 for "Silver Linings Playbook."
Also presenting on stage on Sunday were Sally Field (Best Actress winner for 'Norma Rae' in the 1980s and 'Places in the Heart' in 1985), Charlize Theron (Best Actress winner for 'Monster' in 2004), and Jessica Lange (Best Supporting Actress for 'Blue Sky' in 1995 and 'Tootsie' in 1983).
Stone won the award on Sunday, beating nominees such as Annette Bening ("Nyad"), Lily Gladstone ("Killers of the Flower Moon"), Sandra Hüller ("Anatomy of a Fall"), and Carey Mulligan ("Maestro").
This is her second Oscar, following her win for 'La La Land' in 2017. She was also nominated for 'The Favourite' in 2019 and 'Birdman' in 2015.
In her speech, Emma Stone thanked all the other nominees and took a moment to specifically acknowledge Gladstone, who was expected to win.
'I'm sharing this with you,' she said to Gladstone. 'I'm in awe of you. And to do this together was truly an honor; I hope we can do more together.'
