This “Cinderfella” Story Perfectly Sums Up What’s Wrong With Fairy Tales!

-

Have you ever thought of how sexist fairy tales are? Well, for centuries we’ve been telling little girls to wait for a hero, get married, and live happily ever after in a castle. But we don’t tell the same stories to little boys.

“Our daughters deserve a new kind of fairy tale, that's why we created Good Night Stories For Rebel Girls.” the creators of this amazing project said. Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls is a children's book packed with 100 bedtime stories about the life of 100 extraordinary women from the past and present, illustrated by 60 female artists from all over the world.

And here’s what would happen if Cinderella was a guy, just to give you an idea…

If Cinderella were a guy.

Once upon a time there was a boy named Cinderfella.

He lived with his evil stepfather and ugly stepbrothers.

One day, his stepfather got an invitation.

But Cinderfella's ugly stepbrothers were jealous of his beauty. They didn't want Cinderfella to go, so they tore apart his suit.

Cinderfella wept and wept.

Suddenly, a fairy godfather appeared. He gave Cinderfella a new suit and glass loafers.

"Isn't glass dangerous?"

"Beauty is pain, son. Be home by midnight."

When Cinderfella arrived at the ball, the Princess asked him to dance.

Oh no! His curfew!

"But wait, I don't even know your name!"

The next day, the Princess sent her servant to search for Cinderfella.

When Cinderfella tried the loafer on, it fit perfectly!

So the Princess married Cinderfella.

And they lived happily ever...

We wouldn't read this to our sons.

Why read it to our daughters?

Now it's time for new tales...

Don't tell your little girls to wait for a hero. Tell them they can be heroes themselves!
