Prepare Your Brain, Because These 19 Real Facts Will Hurt It!
This isn’t an ordinary random facts list that includes facts like “cats can see in the dark.” Rather most of the things that we’ll tell you are the things that you can realize for yourself, but just haven’t thought about yet, like “the brain named itself.” Weird, right? Here are more of them.
1. Today, your body is almost completely composed of different atoms than it was a year ago.
It only takes about one year for 98% of the atoms in your body to be replaced. So in essence, you're practically an entirely new person every year.
2. You were once the youngest person alive.
3. The Great Pyramids were older to Cleopatra than Cleopatra is to us.
People tend to think of Cleopatra and the Pyramids at Giza as products of the same era, but the Great Pyramids were completed around 2550 BCE, more than 2,500 years before Cleopatra died in 30 BCE.
4. There are more atoms in a single glass of water than there are glasses of water in every ocean on Earth.
If we consider a 'glass' of water to be 200 grams (which is also 200 mL), then estimate how much water is in the ocean, and do the math on how many water molecules there are in 200 grams of water, there are roughly 6.6855*10^24 molecules in 200 mL of water, as compared to roughly 6.67*10^21 200 mL-sized portions of water in the Earth's oceans.
5. However, there are more possible versions of a shuffled standard deck of cards than there are atoms on Earth.
There are an estimated 10^50 atoms that make up our planet and everything on it. But there are 8.0658e67 possible ways to shuffle a deck, which eclipses the number of atoms by quite a bit. The number is so insanely large that this insane description involving throwing grains of sand in the Grand Canyon doesn't even begin to make a dent in it.
6. Everything in the universe is either a potato or not a potato.
It sounds strange to say it, but it's true.
7. The person closest to your right is the person farthest to your left.
If you only consider the surface of the globe, this is technically correct: The person on your right is the farthest from you on your left if you go allllllllllll the way around the globe.
8. Barack Obama has won more Grammy awards than Katy Perry.
Yep, President Barack Obama has two Grammy wins (in the Spoken Word category, for his memoirs), while Katy Perry has many nominations and zero wins. Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton also have more wins than Katy.
9. Someone who studies atoms is just a bunch of atoms trying to understand itself.
Weird, right?
10. If bees were paid minimum wage for their labor, a jar of honey would cost $182,000.
An average honeybee makes about 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime, which is usually between 120–150 days. They're only active during certain seasons, and they only start collecting nectar about 22 days after they're born. Calculate it all out, and honey would cost a whole lot more if we paid for bee labor.
11. Oxford University is older than the Aztec Empire and the printing press.
Oxford began teaching students all the way back in 1096, whereas, the Aztec Empire began at least 100 years later. The printing press was invented by Johannes Gutenberg in 1439, so the first 350 years of Oxford students were learning from handwritten books.

13. We never actually touch anything.
Because of the structure and composition of atoms, the laws of quantum physics, and the fact that electrons have a negative charge, the electrons in our bodies never actually 'touch' other electrons; they just get very, very, very, very, very close.
14. If two babies are conceived at the same time but one is born two months prematurely, that baby will be two months older than the other baby.
Even though they developed in the womb at the same time. Similarly, if a baby is born in the USA at the same time as a baby in the UK, they could easily have different birthdays despite being born simultaneously.
15. The difference between 1 million seconds and 1 trillion seconds is almost 40,000 years.
One million seconds equals the equivalent of 11½ days.
One billion seconds equals the equivalent of 31¾ years.
One trillion seconds equals the equivalent of 31,710 years.
Mind-blowing.
16. The fact that the moon, as viewed from Earth, appears almost exactly the same size as the sun during a solar eclipse is a complete coincidence of the cosmos.
The moon just happens to be the exact right size and distance away from us as compared to the size and distance of the sun for eclipses to look the way they do.
17. John Tyler was the country's 10th president. He was born in the 1700s. He has two living grandchildren.
John Tyler had a son when he was in his later years (age 63), and that son had children later in life as well, so Tyler's grandchildren are still alive today despite Tyler having been born about 20 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
18. Jimi Hendrix and George Handel lived right next door to each other.
'If you ignore the span of a course of centuries, guitarist Jimi Hendrix would have been a next-door neighbor to classical composer George Handel in London. Plaques adorn their adjacent flats: Hendrix lived at 23 Brook Street, while Handel was at 25 Brook Street.'
19. During your lifetime, you will produce enough saliva to fill two swimming pools.
The human body produces approximately 20,000 liters of saliva over the course of an average lifetime, which could fill two standard swimming pools or roughly 53 bathtubs.
