New Study Reveals Dealing with “Difficult” People Ages You
What are the things that can age a person rapidly? Unhealthy eating habits could be one of them, for instance. Generally, you might think of physical conditions. However, a recent study revealed that the 'difficult' people in your life can also make you age faster.
So, if you feel like your hair is turning white while chatting with someone, you're not mistaken.

The "troublesome individuals" in your life are biologically aging you.

A recent study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reveals that individuals who have more 'troublesome or life-complicating' people in their lives tend to age biologically faster. The researchers stated, 'Negative social ties or 'troublesome individuals' are common but under-studied components of social networks that could accelerate biological aging and disease.'
In other words, even if you're only 35 years old on paper, the number of 'troublemakers' you encounter and negotiate with daily could make your body feel as if it's in the mid-40s in no time. And if these individuals happen to be your relatives, you're in for a tough ride. Troublesome relatives have been linked to a more intense acceleration of aging.
We could say that the more troublesome people you have around you, the quicker you age. The research suggests that 'each additional troublemaker corresponds to approximately a 1.5% faster aging rate and roughly a 9-month older biological age.'
The researchers note that these negative social ties often emerge in dynamics that are not based on voluntariness, and are harder to avoid or distance oneself from. For instance, if you have a work colleague who dampens your spirits, it's easier to steer clear of them. However, if this person is someone from whom distancing is difficult, you may feel more powerless.
Existing research tends to focus more on the positive aspects of social networks. However, as social creatures, humans can certainly be negatively affected by these connections as well. More research in this area is expected in the future.
