23 Valid Reasons To Make Your Bed Every Single Day!

-

You can deal with hundreds of things in a day but still proscrinate to make your bed. It happens. But here are some reasons to change your perspective.

1. Making your bed is a simple habit.

30 seconds can sound like a lot when you're still snoozing, but starting your day with a small accomplishment is worth the extra time.

2. U.S. Navy Adm. William H. McRaven says if you want to change the world, you should start by making your bed.

"If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day,'' he said in a commencement speech at the University of Texas. "It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another. And by the end of the day that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed."

3. Leaving your bed messy can stunt your overall productivity.

"When you leave your bedding in a messy heap, you will tend to muddle through the day until it’s time to fall back in to bed again," Karen Kingston, Feng Shui and Clutter expert says.

4. It's one habit that can actually lead to other good habits.

"Making your bed every morning is correlated with better productivity, a greater sense of well-being, and stronger skills at sticking with a budget" wrote Charles Duhigg in his book, The Power of Habit.

5. Making your bed can actually help with allergies.

When the covers are pulled up during the day, less dust and allergens can get between your sheets. Not to mention pet hair...

6. It might also help you sleep better.

A poll from the National Sleep Foundation found that people who reported making their beds also reported better sleep overall.

7. A tidy bed will make even a messy room seem cleaner and less cluttered.

8. Making the bed reminds you that little things matter.

"If you can't do the little things right, you'll never be able to do the big things right. And if by chance you have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that is made — that you made. And a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better," said Adm. McRaven.

9. Let's be real: there's nothing better than getting into a perfectly made bed at the end of a long day.

It's like living in a hotel!

10. Try this Jedi mind trick: don't leave your room until the bed is made.

No matter what. If you have to pee? Even better. You'll move faster and get it done.

11. If coffee is a better motivator, use the time between turning the pot on and it being ready to make the bed.

There's nothing I wouldn't do to get to my coffee.

12. You don't need tons of extra fancy pillows to make a bed look complete.

Just stack your sleeping pillows and you're good to go.

13. One or two simple throw pillows in front of the stack will also do the trick.

14. A long lumbar pillow will give the whole bed a complete look.

15. For a perfect minimalist vibe, learn how to make hospital corners.

The key is having a flat sheet that is big enough to tuck all the way under.

16. Use sheet straps or safety pins to keep your perfect corners perfect.

Or, to keep your fitted sheets on through ~lots of movement~.

17. Shortcut: ditch the top sheet altogether.

Eliminate a whole step in making the bed with just a bottom sheet and a comforter.

18. This duvet cover looks like a flat sheet all folded perfectly into place.

It looks hotel-fancy with only one layer.

19. Or, this "Smart Bedding" snaps the sheet and the coverlet together so you can make the whole bed in one step.

20. A textured duvet or comforter won't show wrinkles.

Which will make the bed look more perfect with just the covers pulled up.

21. Use the burrito trick to get your duvet cover on the easiest way possible:

22. If you share a bed with someone, split the job.

Each person makes just their half. Half the work in half the time.

23. Or there's always this trick:

You have to be creative if you're going to be lazy.
