They say movies are a reflection of our society. Just like the happy reflections, there are puzzling and disturbing reflections, too. But some of these tend to be extremely disturbing, making the audience hate their humanity and the movie themselves. Some of these titles may not be masterpieces but they surely are very popular with their fucked up plots, characters and scenes…

20. Oldboy (2003)

South Korea’s source of proud Oldboy shows reality in very direct, harsh and brutal ways. It will get on your nerves for sure.

19. A Clockwork Orange (1971)

Kubrick’s exquisite dystopia is of course on our list. Alex can also be found in unforgettable movie characters’ lists. You admire the movie but on the other hand, you hate the society and how humanity might actually have no hope at all…

18. I Spit on Your Grave (2010)

Think twice before you say anything after reading the title. This is a violent revenge story about a young woman who got raped. Her hatred becomes your hatred and you start feeling good about all the torture scenes, thinking the guy deserves it all.

17. Hostel (2005)

Here we go. Hostel already has its own fanbase. It’s all about crazy CEOs and rich people having ‘fun’ while torturing kidnapped people in very absurd ways. The sequels are just as dirty as the original one.

16. Funny Games (1997)

Either the old version or the new version, it makes no difference. This movie is really based on ruining all the pure hopes of the audience. You just can’t catch a break. We are pretty sure your faith in humanity will be shaken after this one.

15. À l'intérieur (2007)

This French movie is like a bloodbath. It shows how wild and violent people can get with their survival instincts kicking in. It will push your boundaries of disgusting for sure.

14. Crash (1996)

First two features of Cronenberg movies: Violence and sex. Crash is a solid proof of this. You will feel the intensity and disturbance throughout the entire movie!

13. Antichrist (2009)

I think everyone knows how far it can go when it’s Lars vonTrier we are talking about. For some, it’s a useless movie but for some others, it has excellent cinematography. That is if you can actually survive the scenes.

12. Irreversible (2002)

Its reverse series of events, ugly, vulgar and brutal storytelling really makes you want to fast forward many scenes. Let’s not forget Monica Belluci’s amazing acting. But please, don’t start your movies with such scenes!

David Lynch is showing how to use the best of available technology in the late 70s. His weird and disturbing movies only followed his absurd first title.

10. The Last House on the Left (1972)

Your whole faith in your neighbors and street will change after this movie. Its 2009 remake is just as disturbing as the first one. The ones who caused the first disturbance are exposed to disturbance at a whole new level.

9. Nymphomaniac (2013)

Here we have Lars von Trier again…Sex and violence are walking hand in hand once more. This movie was banned by so many countries, big or small. Some critics say it reaches out to the animal inside everyone and portrays how men see women in reality. Still, horrible!

8. Martyrs (2008)

The peak moment of a torture is of course the moment people feel closest to their death. But what happens if this moment lasts kinda too long? A very different approach to gruesome movies!

So you thought black&white movies shot in the 30s can’t be scary or disturbing? Well think again! This one is considered a cult (god knows why) and it really shows how much you can do with such little technology in those years.

6. Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma (1975)

Taking human slavery to a whole new level. Half of the movie is filled with chained people exposed to horrific tortures and treatments.

Ok it was funny when South Park made an episode about this but this is seriously fucked up. I mean who wants to conduct such a research? The movie was actually cost a lot to make and there were so many actors taking part in it. BUT WHY?
