Gouqi island belongs to a group of 394 islands that form the archipelago of Shengsi islands, located outside of Hangzhou Bay in China. Although the area has traditionally relied on the fishing industry, nowadays with the development of the secondary and tertiary industries, many fishing villages have been abandoned. Consequently, what was once a thriving fishing hub has been long deserted and naturally transformed into a green jungle of tangled plants and neglected buildings. Vines climb the old stone walls, weave through the windows and doors, and creep along the crumbling paths in this abandoned village.
These photos by Jane Qing, a creative photographer based in Shanghai, take us into this lost village on the beautiful archipelago.
